Playing Poker at PCR

March 19, 2008

After a week off Warren and the Ferguson Autosports team
were all looking forward to getting to track and doing some
racing. Sponsor, Les Darcy of Fruitwheels Refrigerated
Transport would be there and the team was keen for a strong
showing.

A difficult track was presented to all with the grader
making an appearance after hot laps which settled the track
a little for those who were timing early in the list. A
late time and a 20th place result was the accepted result
for the Visual Impact Embroidery #32.

A front row start in the 4th heat saw a great move by
Warren in the Deco Glaze Glass Splashback car, rounding up
Pole sitter Martin Lawes and moving into the lead on the
first lap. Warren stayed in front during the numerous
restarts for other cars which had crashed or spun and led
all the way to the chequered flag.

Even after winning his heat Warren and the Deco Glaze team
missed out on a dash spot by one position due to the time
trial result, but would go straight into the nights A-Main.
As the A-main pushed off Warren knew this race would be
like playing “poker” – a lot of patience, a little bluffing
and then decide wether to “bet or fold”. Starting from
position 20 on a racetrack with ruts as deep as your knees,
everyone knew passing would be tough. The first 15 laps
were pretty much follow the leader with little to no
passing. At this point Warren made the decision to fold the
hand he was dealt and pulled the car in to the pits. “ We
were just stuck down the back, I was watching the guys in
front of me making desperate moves and decided I wasn’t
willing to destroy our car or anyone else’s with stupid
passing attempts. There is always next week. This team
doesn’t have money to burn” Consequently the result would
be a disappointing DNF, but with a straight race car.

For our next event we look forward to the completion of the
Australian Title at PCR on March 29th. In the meantime
Ferguson Autosports wishes all our supporters and those
involved with the team Happy Easter and hopes the Easter
Bunny is kind to you all. Check out www.warrenferguson.com

Ends release.
