Ferguson has the Need for More Than Speed

November 3, 2008

Ferguson Autosports headed out to PCR on November the 1st
to put results on the board. So far this year Warren and
his team have had the speed yet been unlucky with the
results.

The night commenced with heavy hearts as tribute was paid
to Scott Darley. Whilst it was a sad occasion for all, it
was great to see the strength of the Darley family who were
there to support the sport that they and Scott loved,
speedway. RIP Scott Darley.

Qualifying commenced on an unusual track that many
considered “patchy”. The 32 was 19th quick out of the 47
competitors on hand. The Deco Glaze, Fruitwheels, Visual
Impact, G&S Forklifts team were not satisfied and adjusted
the car for the first heat where Warren finished in 6th
place. Again not satisfied, the hard working crew set about
making more tweaks before the second heat.

“I couldn’t get comfortable with the cars handling, it was
taking too much effort to turn the car into the corner and
was robbing us of track speed” commented Warren.

The second heat proved more fruitful with Warren taking the
win in the Deco Glaze #32 from position 5. Suspension
changes made more comfortable car and track speed was
evident.

Feature race time. Scheduled to start from position 4,
Warren was keen for a great result. As the cars rounded the
corner to take the green flag Warren was hit from behind
and his right rear tyre punctured. As a lap was not
completed and a full restart ordered. This allowed the Deco
Glaze crew to quickly change the tyre putting the 32 back
in the race but from position 24. With the change the car
was not the same, Warren was man-handling the car past
competitors and found himself as high a 12th place when a
stoppage occurred on lap 20. A lap after the restart Warren
tangled with a competitor whilst passing him. The result
was a simple crash and the car rolled onto its side, this
unfortunately put the Deco Glaze 32 out of the race and was
credited with 22nd place finish. This was not how the team
wanted to end the night.

“We raced hard, there was fire in the belly” quipped
Warren, “That’s racing and fortunately its nothing more
than a few hours in the workshop and we’ll be ready for the
WSS event on November 15th at PCR”.

Many thanks to our sponsors Deco Glaze, Fruitwheels, Visual
Impact, G&S Forklifts and Royal Purple for their support.
Special thanks to Dwayne Lawrence for his tuning
assistance, the crew - George, Lisa, Judy for their
effort, and Warren’s patient partner Kirstin.
