Difficult run at WSS finals for Ferguson
January 24, 2009
24th January 2009
The recently contested World Series Sprintcars (WSS) Final at PCR proved to be a torrid affair for Ferguson Autosports. Still struggling slightly with set-ups on the new Maxim car, Warren fought hard only to be just out of an A-main start on both nights.
Time trialing in 17th set the scene as the WSS format relies heavily on this part of the program. A tough field with great depth meant that holding your heat position would not be enough.
Night one saw a pair of sevenths in heat race action and a DNF in the B-main after running 6th place when it seemed that a tire was going down and Warren retired to the pits.
"It's difficult to come to these big events and test a car", Warren commented, "We are not that far away from getting it right, but it seems that a couple of percent is way off at the moment. There's probably a bit of me in that too, so I'm working hard on being back to 100% behind the wheel".
Night 2 saw the Deco Glaze, Fruitwheels, Visual Impact, G&S number 32 in much stronger form with a solid 3rd place in the heat after battling for most of the race with current national champ Brooke Tatnell.
Due to the points format a 12th place start would see a difficult B-main that included 2 x club champions, 2 x USA professionals and some tough PCR locals. Lets just say that the B-main represented a very solid A-main field.
A tough fought 10th place would be the result only 4 spots shy of the 18 car A-main field. Warren was disappointed at not being able to get through to the A but also pleased that the set-ups tested on Night 2 found the car on the pace.
Our next event is the January 31st show at PCR.
